It’s recommended that personnel charge forklift batteries on full eight-hour cycles. In addition, never operate a forklift battery whose charge has gone below 20%!

Never forget forklift battery watering

During the everyday forklift battery handling process, it can be easy for personnel to forget one of the most crucial steps in charging a forklift battery — the watering process. Forklift batteries must be watered whenever its water levels get too low. This is because the components of water — hydrogen and oxygen — split apart when the battery heats up, and will eventually evaporate away. Neglecting to water forklift batteries can cause the battery to overheat and will result in permanent damage. Just be sure to always use distilled water!

Clean your forklift batteries

During everyday use, forklift batteries undergo a process called sulphination which causes a white, chalky substance to build up on the battery’s exterior. This buildup can compromise the battery’s ability to be charged and to maintain that charge, which is why regular washing of all forklift batteries is imperative.
